At NFU Mutual we’re committed to doing business the right way. For more than 110 years we’ve been looking after communities and supporting our members on the issues that matter to them most. We’re proud to deliver more than insurance products and services. Educating young drivers, making farming safer, tackling rural poverty, and enabling sustainable living are just some of the ways we provide more for our members and the communities we work in.
Helping our members in times of need and supporting communities has always been at the very heart of our approach. We have more than 295 local agency offices serving communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and our Agents in each of these agencies are our local community champions.
In 2021, our Agents had access to a special £2m fund called the Agency Giving Fund, which was designed to support local frontline charities who had been affected by Coronavirus. Our agencies and branch offices across the UK were invited to use their expert local knowledge to nominate local charities that needed financial support.. Donations were spread across the UK, providing much needed emergency relief and support to charities including frontline health charities, mental health outreach programmes, and food parcel delivery services. We’re proud to be continuing the Agency Giving Fund again this year, as part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25m charitable giving pledge for 2022.
How the 2022 Agency Giving Fund is already making a difference
From providing food parcels, to supporting local hospices, air ambulances, and mental health support groups, the Agency Giving Fund is championing front-line charities across a broad range of sectors, helping to keep vital services going for our members and their communities as well as helping to build long-term resilience. To date, more than £596,000 has now been distributed to local causes from this year’s fund, thanks to nominations from our agencies.
One of the charities that benefitted from the Agency Giving Fund during 2021 is Highland Disability Golf who were nominated by the NFU Mutual Dingwall Agency in Scotland. Highland Disability Golf is a small charity that gives people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sport, from grass roots to Olympic level. They hope to use the money they received to take their golfers to the Open in Germany in August 2023, something that may not have been possible without the donation.
Johnny Hogg, Agent, explains why Highland Disability Golf was chosen to receive a donation from the Agency Giving Fund: “The charity provides help and support for those with a range of disabilities in our area to come together, socialise and play golf. It’s all about making friends and keeping fit. When I’ve attended Highland Disability Golf events, I’ve seen the work they do, and the enjoyment the people they support get from this charity. Everyone in the Dingwall Agency agreed they were a very worthy cause to nominate for the Agency Giving Fund.”
